Understanding the condition

Recovery, programmed into your training.

Sports massage is not a one-off treat — used well, it is a tool that fits into your training cycle. Deep-tissue and pre-event work can support recovery, manage accumulating tightness, and keep hard-training bodies moving well. The key is timing it to your schedule, not your stress levels.

We programme massage around your training — deeper restorative work in heavier blocks, lighter pre-event work before competition. It pairs naturally with our physiotherapy and strength services, helping you absorb the load you are putting in and stay available to train and compete.

Why it happens

The root causes we look for.

01
Training load
Hard, repeated training builds tissue tightness that benefits from regular work.
02
Recovery demand
Bodies under load need active recovery strategies to keep performing.
03
Pre-event tension
Targeted work before competition can help muscles feel primed and ready.
04
Accumulated tightness
Restrictions build quietly over a season and are best managed, not ignored.
Symptoms we treat

Recognise any of these?

Heavy legs after training
Tightness in specific muscle groups
Pre-event preparation
Post-event recovery
Niggling injuries that haven't flared
Reduced range affecting performance
Our Approach

How we'll actually treat it.

STEP 1
1
Training context
Where are you in your training cycle? Pre-comp, post-comp, mid-block?
STEP 2
2
Targeted work
Specific muscle groups based on your sport and current load.
STEP 3
3
Manual depth
Deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point work — calibrated to tolerance.
STEP 4
4
Recovery plan
Self-care advice for the 48 hours after. Hydration, mobility, follow-up if needed.
Services Involved

The disciplines we'll combine.

Every programme braids two or three of our core services. Here's the typical pairing for this condition.

The results

Treatment that actually holds.

As part of a programmed approach, sports massage helps athletes recover better, manage tightness and stay available — it works best woven into your training, not bolted on as an afterthought.

It depends on your goal — deeper restorative work fits heavier training blocks, while lighter work suits the days before competition. We help you time it to your cycle rather than treating it as a random one-off.
Not at all — anyone training regularly can benefit. The principles of recovery and managing tissue load apply just as much to a committed amateur as to a professional.
Deep-tissue work can feel intense in places, but it should never be unbearable. We work to a level that is productive and comfortable for you, and adjust to the day's purpose.
Sports massage is purposeful and programmed around your training and recovery, often deeper and more specific. It is a performance and recovery tool rather than a purely relaxing experience.
It is best seen as one supporting part of a wider plan — helping manage tightness and recovery alongside the strength and load management that genuinely reduce injury risk. On its own it is a helpful tool, not a guarantee.
Lighter, shorter work in the day or two before suits most people best, with deeper recovery work afterwards once the event is done. We will tailor timing to your specific event and how your body tends to respond.
It can take the edge off and may modestly speed recovery, though some soreness after a hard session is a normal training response rather than a problem to fix. We will set realistic expectations for what massage can and cannot do here.
It genuinely helps — knowing whether you're in a heavy block, tapering or recovering changes both the technique and the pressure we use. A quick conversation about your training at the start of each session is part of how we programme it well.
